Wheaton World Wide Moving is a 67-year-old moving company that has been known previously as “Wheaton Van Lines” and “Clipper Van Lines.” The company has achieved lasting success in the volatile moving industry. Its most recent accomplishment was purchasing another major player, Bekins Van Lines. Bekins Van Lines was set to be closed at the beginning of March 2012, and the employees and operations of Bekins are planned to be consolidated. Wheaton World Wide Moving is currently based in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Unlike the vast majority of other van line-based companies in the US, Wheaton’s employees actually own their own vans and moving vehicles. The company has attributed its renowned customer service abilities to its “Employee Stock Ownership Program.” Another reason for the company’s success is that it has maintained a Good Housekeeping Seal from Good Housekeeping magazine every year dating back to 1964, honoring its commitment to providing quality moving services.

Wheaton World Wide Services

Like most movers, Wheaton World Wide Moving offers a plethora of useful services for people who are moving. Some of these services include:

International, military, and corporate relocation.

Why Choose Wheaton World Wide for Your Move?

Wheaton World Wide is one of the industry’s largest moving services. As such, they have the resources available to ship items for just about anyone. Discounts are available for seniors over the age of 50, and, for a limited time, the company is offering a $150 discount for all shipments of 5,000 pounds or greater. Finally, Wheaton’s care and concern for moving delicate items is exemplified by its position as the official mover of Steinway & Sons pianos for concerts and tours for the past 22 years.

Advanced Charges

Agent
The representative of a moving company that is authorized to carry out a move.

Appliance Service
An additional service that prepares large appliances for transport in accordance with safety guidelines.

Bill of Lading
The document that functions as a receipt for the moving service. The bill of lading must be agreed to beforehand and signed. Always keep a copy for your records, and always read over all the terms laid out on the document.

Binding Estimate
A rate that is quoted to the customer for the moving service. This rate must be adhered to on the Bill of Lading by the movers, given certain exceptions.

Corporate Relocation Quotes

Carrier
The actual person responsible for transporting your goods.

Carrierʼs Liability
The amount, expressed in a sum, of financial responsibility a carrier assumes for your possessions. This is not the same as insurance, and not all carrierʼs may assume the same liability levels.

Claim
A notice by the customer indicating loss or damages of transported goods while in the possession of the transporter.

COD

Declared Valuation
The value of the items being shipped as agreed upon by the shipper. This figure determines the maximum liability of the carrier.

Delivery Window

Freight Forwarder

Moving is a stressful time for everyone involved. Many people choose to alleviate that stress by hiring a moving company to handle all the grunt work. Other people prefer to move everything themselves, often by renting a moving truck to move office equipment or household items in one trip. Regardless of how you move your furniture and belongings, the following moving tips will help you organize your move and ensure everything goes smoothly.

Moving Tips for Do-It-Yourself Movers

Moving an entire multi-room house or office by yourself is a staggering amount of work. If possible, find friends or family members to help you. Especially for heavy furniture, as carrying heavy items by yourself can result in serious injury and/or damaged items. Therefore, find a friend that’s in good shape to help you and also purchase or rent a moving dolly. You will be amazed at how easy moving dollies can make lifting heavy objects.

Once you have found some friends or family members to help with your DIY move, consider the following moving tips:

If you are planning to move soon, don’t wait until the last minute to get organized – start packing as soon as possible. Packing is one of the most time consuming aspects of moving, so it’s best to get started early.

Never skimp on packing supplies. Buying quality packing supplies and moving boxes will save you a lot of frustration during your move. When moving fragile items like china, mirrors, and antique furniture, you will want to use packing popcorn and shrink wrap.

Consider purchasing a portable storage container to store some of your items for longer periods of time. These shipping containers, frequently referred to as PODs, will be delivered to your new home or office at your convenience. You may want to find a larger storage unit at a local storage facility.

Be sure to rent a moving truck big enough to ship all your items in one trip. This is of the utmost importance, especially for long distance moves!

Tips to Follow When Hiring Professional Movers

Moving companies are pros when it comes to packing your valuables and moving your furniture. They will have all the necessary supplies to safely pack and transport all your items. Not to mention, the speed at which they can pack, load, and unload your possessions makes hiring a moving company a worthwhile investment. While most moving services include all the work involved in the moving process, the following moving tips should help you ensure moving day is stress-free!

Label all moving boxes clearly so they are treated with proper care. Note any boxes that have delicate items inside, and, if possible, indicate on the box which room it should be taken to when delivered.

Inform moving companies ahead of time if you need them to move a specialty item, such as grand pianos, water beds, and other goods that require special care when transporting.

Always make sure your belongings are properly insured when you move – either by you or the movers you hire. Never assume the moving company will cover your damaged goods, especially if they are expensive.

Following these moving tips will ensure your move is quick and simple. To get free moving quotes and save up to 50% on your move, complete the form at the top of this page!

Corporate relocation is an extensive job that takes careful planning and plenty of time. Full service office movers can help companies pack, move and unpack their office supplies to speed up the moving process. If your company doesn’t have the necessary packing supplies, including boxes, packaging tape, protective wrap and blankets, full-service business moving companies can also provide corporate moving supplies at an additional cost.

Corporate Moving Services and Packing Tips

Most companies allow employees to pack their basic office items themselves. To safely pack your office equipment and supplies, make sure to:

Always pack infrequently used items first. Ensure that full service corporate movers put these boxes in the back of the truck, as they are the last that need to be unpacked.

Pack boxes efficiently and ensure they are fairly secure. However, avoid overpacking boxes, especially with heavy items, as these boxes may fall apart during transit. Broken office supplies can be fairly costly, so always handle expensive office equipment with care.

Don’t forget to use packing paper, packaging peanuts and protective wrap. Fragile items made of glass should always be packed with packing paper or peanuts. Protective wrap is a great way to prevent office furniture from being scratched or dented while on the moving truck.

Don’t try to move the heaviest items yourself. Let the professionals do the job they have been hired to do.

Once the boxes have been adequately packed, seal them with a strong packaging tape. Never fold down the box top – this method rarely stays put while being handled by hasty movers. Always label the owner of every box, their department, and provide a brief description of the contents. Never give too many specific details about the items in a box, as thieves have and will target moving companies.

Always try to provide full-service office movers with the most accurate total weight of the items you are moving. This can mean the difference between renting the right sized moving truck, or having to rent a second moving vehicle. Finally, inform the business moving company of any specialty items, including grand pianos, pool tables, or other exceptionally heavy or large objects, before the moving date, to verify they have the equipment to move these items safely.

If you’ve never used a professional moving company before, you might wonder what full service movers actually do. Compared to self moving, which usually entails renting a moving truck, packing and lifting everything yourself, a full-service mover will handle everything for you. Most companies offer white glove packing, loading and delivery, though they will also allow customers to purchase service piecemeal.

Hiring Full Service Movers

When hiring full service movers, customers should always investigate the recommendations and reputations of the moving company – especially if you are considering paying a premium for a white glove service that ensures the safe delivery of your goods. Always investigate the company by doing the following research:

View the full-service mover’s Better Business Bureau rating. Any grade below B may indicate the possibility of future problems with this company.

Investigate the FMCSA company snapshot to ensure they are properly licensed and registered. The snapshot will also provide information regarding any recent crashes and inspections in the United States and Canada.

Read moving company reviews on our website or on the company’s site (if available).

Also, consider asking for customer referrals. Always verify that the company includes guarantees regarding on-time, safe delivery.

Protecting Your Household Items

Although a full-service mover will almost always take additional steps to protect your furniture, such as wrapping it in a protective plastic wrap, it’s a good idea to purchase insurance for any valuable items being moved. Verify whether the mover you have chosen includes a substantial insurance policy as part of your moving package, or if you can purchase one at an additional cost. Otherwise, ask your homeowners insurance company for more options to insure your household goods.

Finally, always be sure to inform the full-service moving company about any special needs that you may have. Movers have to take additional steps to lift and transport items like grand pianos, slate pool tables, or large fish tanks. Letting them know ahead of time ensures they can pool the necessary resources to move just about anything safely and expediently.

When selecting a moving company for a household move or corporate relocation, it’s important to compare multiple companies and ask each of the movers questions provided in this article. To ensure all of your belongings arrive safely, you want to “weed out” the bad companies to find the movers who will provide the highest quality of service at an affordable price.

What moving services do you offer?
Most national moving companies can provide a variety of services. Some of the moving services offered include packing, unpacking, specialty packing (wines, collectibles, antiques), furniture set-up, short-term and long-term storage. These are just some examples of the services available. Some companies offer auto transport services as well. While there may be an extra fee for additional services, the fees are well worth the time and money saved in most cases. It’s important to ask all potential movers what services they provide, and get detailed pricing to help you decide which company you will hire.

Can you move fragile items, such as my china cabinet and piano?
Delicate items such as a china cabinets, pianos, and grandfather clocks should be packed and moved with extreme care, by professionals. These items may not only be fragile, but very valuable as well. They can be damaged easily if not handled properly. Hire reputable moving companies that specialize in moving antiques and collectibles.

Do you have storage units available for my belongings?
Many of the larger moving companies and van lines will have storage facilities available for customers in most cities. This option is not available everywhere, nor offered by all moving companies. However, if the mover you hire does not offer storage services, they will be able to help you find an affordable storage facility in the area. Be sure to ask the moving company about the cost of both short-term storage and long-term storage.

What items cannot be moved or stored?
No professional movers can transport items that are combustible, flammable, or explosive. To give you an idea of some the items that cannot be transported, here is a short list:

Fire Extinguishers

Household disinfectant cleaners

Oil, gasoline, or antifreeze

Propane cans or tanks

Perishable foods

Pool chemicals

Charcoal

Again, this is just a short list, but should give you a general idea of what movers and storage facilities will not move or store with your household belongings. Please note, most moving companies will provide you with a list of what not to include with your shipment.

Is your company licensed, bonded and insured?
Each of the moving companies in our network have insurance to cover broken, damaged, or lost items, but be sure to get specific coverage amounts from each company if you are interested. As with any service, the consumer must never assume that insurance is provided.

What will insurance policy cover?
Some moving company insurance plans will only cover the retail value of the item that was broken, damaged, or lost. If you paid $1,000 for a television 5 years ago, that same television is probably worth much less today. The same model may be able to be purchased in a store for $500. However, since your television was 5 years old, the insurance company would not insure you for the full $500 it would cost to replace the television because it is used and has depreciated in value. Therefore, you may only be reimbursed for a fraction of the replacement cost.

Do perform drug tests and background checks on your movers?
The last thing you need on your moving day is to have something go missing from your home. You don’t want to have any question about the trustworthiness of the movers in your home. Make sure you ask each company about their employee screening before you choose to hire them for your move.

You do you determine the moving estimate?
Sometimes an hourly rate can assist you in getting the best deal possible, especially if you are able to help with some of the labor. Alternatively, it can also be the most expensive pricing model if you have a large amount of furniture and belongings to move. Think about what method would offer the best moving costs and try to negotiate the terms with the moving company.

Does the service offer a flat-rate pricing structure?
Many moving services will offer a flat-rate service, whereby they agree to move a certain amount of furniture for a set price, regardless of how long it takes.

How flexible are the moving schedules?
It can be difficult, if not completely impossible, to schedule movers on holiday weekends if you don’t make your reservation far in advance. This can be especially inconvenient, since this is when many people choose to move. Therefore, planning is one of the more important factors of a successful move.

How far in advance do I need to make a reservation?
Some moving companies will take reservations several months in advance, while others only book your move a few weeks out. Be sure to compare the availability of several movers before you choose a company to hire.

Is a moving deposit required?
Some movers will require a deposit before you move and the remainder of the moving cost paid upon completion of the move. Again, be sure to ask each company about the payment options.
